A risk of rock falls threatening several houses located at the foot of Demodara Ethulkanda has emerged following the recent wildfire in the area, Ella Divisional Secretary Gayan Indika said.The fire reportedly broke out at around 7.00 p.m. on July 16, 2026.However, residents were able to bring the spread of the fire under control within a few hours of it breaking out.The fire also did not spread to nearby tea estates, as firebreaks had already been established along the estate boundaries.Commenting on the situation, Harshani Perera, District Geologist of the Badulla District Office of the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), said that a team of officials would be dispatched to the area to assess the potential rock fall risk.
