The government has begun rolling out a nationwide revenue-generating development programme worth Rs. 2.5 billion aimed at strengthening local economies and improving social conditions in communities across Sri Lanka.

A comprehensive development initiative valued at Rs. 2.5 billion commenced across Sri Lanka under the oversight of the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government. The programme, implemented as part of the broader 'Punarudaya Purawara' national initiative, seeks to enhance local economic activity and social welfare in participating areas.

The rollout began with ceremonial launches in the Madurankuliya and Puttalam districts as well as the Agunukolapelessa area, with senior government officials including the Minister and Deputy Minister of Public Administration presiding over the events. The initiative encompasses more than 100 projects spanning multiple economic sectors.

According to the government, the development programme represents a focused effort to stimulate growth at the grassroots level by channeling investment into revenue-generating activities. Officials view the undertaking as a mechanism to address both economic development and social infrastructure needs simultaneously across participating localities.
