Sri Lanka's Health Ministry has announced a Rs. 45 billion fund allocation to complete hospital construction projects left suspended, with completion targeted within two years. The initiative is part of broader efforts to modernise healthcare infrastructure.

The government has earmarked Rs. 45 billion to restart and finish hospital construction projects that remain incomplete, according to Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa. The minister stated that these efforts are already underway, with a target completion timeframe of two years. The allocation reflects the government's stated commitment to prioritise efficient use of public resources while addressing critical gaps in the health sector.

Beyond resuming stalled projects, the Health Ministry is pursuing a comprehensive equipment upgrade programme across state hospitals. The government plans to install 16 cardiac catheterisation laboratories in major hospitals at a cost of Rs. 3.15 billion, while also working to supply modern CT and MRI scanning equipment to healthcare facilities nationwide. Officials indicated that a formal assessment of additional medical equipment requirements is being conducted for implementation in the coming year.

During an event held on the 16th, the Health Minister officially inaugurated renovated facilities at Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital, which underwent upgrades totalling over Rs. 134 million. The renovation project included improvements to the Outpatient Department, main pharmacy, clinics, ward corridors, psychiatric facilities, and support infrastructure such as staff rest areas. Additionally, a newly constructed minor services control office was opened as part of the hospital's development programme.
