Russell, the reigning Olympic champion, executed a near-flawless performance over the hurdles to shave 0.03 seconds off the previous world record. The achievement marked the culmination of a strong season for the athlete, who had narrowly missed breaking the record on two earlier occasions.
Nigeria's Tobi Amusan, who held the world record heading into the race, finished second with a season's best time of 12.23 seconds. European champion Nadine Visser completed the podium in third place, also recording a season's best of 12.34 seconds. Russell's record-breaking performance underscores her position as one of the world's elite hurdlers and highlights the competitive depth in the women's 100m hurdles event.
