The Student Association of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sabaragamuwa has expressed its opposition to the participation of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya in the opening ceremony of the faculty’s new Saudi Arabia-funded complex. The new Faculty of Medicine complex was officially declared open by the Prime Minister today. In a statement, the Student Association said the faculty was established through the struggle and efforts of students and objected to what it described as the involvement of political authorities in the opening ceremony. “As the Student Association of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sabaragamuwa, we express our protest over the involvement of political forces in opening our faculty, which was built through the struggle of students,” the statement said. The new Faculty of Medicine complex was constructed with funding from Saudi Arabia and is expected to strengthen medical education facilities at the University of Sabaragamuwa. (Newswire)
