The Sri Lanka Cricket Invitational Media XI defeated the touring San Francisco Bay Select XI by 14 runs in the opening match of the visitors’ 21-day cricket tour of Sri Lanka at the NCC Grounds in Colombo. Batting first, the Media XI were bowled out for 232 in 37 overs. Former Sri Lanka Test cricketer and now media personality Sanjeeva Ranatunga, 57, starred with 53 off 49 balls, while Damith Weerasinghe top-scored with 67 off 56 deliveries. Umair Wolid added 29. For the visitors, Shezad Lakdawala was the pick of the bowlers with 6 wickets for 29 runs, while Red Hendery claimed 2 for 19 and Manoj Rodrigo took 1 for 33. Chasing 233, the San Francisco Bay Select XI were dismissed for 218 in 37.3 overs. Sudip Shah led the scoring with 69 off 58 balls, while Manoj Rodrigo made 25 and Aazim Sohail contributed 17. Sameera Peiris claimed 4 wickets for 45 runs for the Media XI, while Damith Weerasinghe took 3 for 25 and Dinesh Upendra finished with 1 for 24.
