Sanka Ratnayake, President of the Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation, has been elected as an Executive Board Member of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation following elections held in Glasgow.

Sanka Ratnayake has secured a position on the Executive Board of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation (CWF) following electoral proceedings conducted in Glasgow, Scotland on July 31. The election saw Ratnayake selected as one of eight board members who will serve during the federation's next four-year term.

Ratnayake currently leads the Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation, a role he assumed following his election as President at the organization's 47th Annual General Meeting held at the National Institute of Sports Science last year. Prior to this appointment, he served as Vice President of the local federation in 2023 and 2024. His administrative trajectory in weightlifting circles has also extended to the South Asian Weightlifting Federation, where he holds the position of Vice President.

The newly elected board member brings a lengthy association with the sport. Ratnayake attended Dharmaraja College in Kandy, where he captained the school's weightlifting team in 1996. His progression from athlete to administrator reflects growing involvement in sport governance within the region.
