Shocking details continue to emerge from the investigations into the murder of 34-year-old Shimaya Darshani, a physiotherapist at the Ampara Hospital.

The suspects, including the in-charge of the Kundasala Police Training College, who are accused of helping the main suspect in the case to remain absconding, were produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court yesterday (26). The court has ordered them to be remanded until the 9th.

Following the recovery of the body of a young woman from an abandoned car in the Theldeniya area on the 17th, investigations confirmed that the deceased was Shimaya Darshani.

Her alleged lover was arrested while hiding in Jaffna with his wife and child. A Pradeshiya Sabha employee was also arrested later for aiding him.

During interrogations conducted with the suspects, it has been revealed that the in-charge of the Kundasala Police Training College helped the main suspect hide.

During interrogations, it has been revealed that the main suspect, who met the police officer on the introduction of a Pradeshiya Sabha employee, was advised to “drop the body near some hospital.” Accordingly, the body was allegedly abandoned near the Theldeniya Hospital.

Following this, the officer said, “I will arrange a lawyer, don’t be afraid and stay in hiding,” and then “Don’t come out until the autopsy report says it was suicide.”

Furthermore, it has been revealed that after learning about the incident, he received Rs. 10,000 from the main suspect and used part of it to buy liquor and personal items.

During interrogation, although the main suspect confessed that the deceased woman had committed suicide by hanging herself, the autopsy confirmed that she had been strangled to death. Furthermore, the police suspect that the window curtain rod he mentioned was not strong enough to support the weight of a human body, so false information may have been provided with the intention of diverting the investigation.

In this context, the wife of the main suspect has also been arrested for helping to cover up the crime. The police are continuing to conduct further investigations into the incident.
