A community cleaning initiative in Navatkuly, Jaffna brought together government officials, security personnel, and local volunteers to improve the area's environment.
A coordinated cleanup effort took place in the Navatkuly area of Jaffna on Wednesday morning, organised through a partnership between the SCJ Volunteer Team, the Chavakkacheri Divisional Secretariat, and the Clean Sri Lanka initiative. The programme began at 7:30 a.m. and mobilised volunteers from multiple sectors of the community to address environmental cleanliness in the region.
Twenty-two members of the SCJ Volunteer Team participated in the initiative, joining approximately 150 residents of the village. The cleanup operation focused on public areas, with participants working to improve the surrounding environment through collaborative effort. Representatives from the Sri Lanka Army and Police also took part, contributing to the cross-sector participation that characterised the event.
Organisers emphasised the value of bringing together government institutions, security personnel, volunteer organisations, and community members to address shared environmental concerns. The participation of the SCJ Volunteer Team demonstrated its commitment to community development, while the involvement of the Chavakkacheri Divisional Secretariat and Clean Sri Lanka initiative reflected broader governmental support for such efforts.
