Attorney-at-Law Dr. Ajith Rohana, who served as Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the North Western Province, has retired after 38 years of service to the Sri Lanka Police.
Dr. Ajith Rohana officially retired from the Sri Lanka Police on September 11, 2026, following a farewell police guard of honour held on September 8 at Welegedara Stadium in Kurunegala. His retirement marked the end of a 38-year career in the police service, during which he held several senior operational and administrative positions across multiple provinces.
Rohana holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Open University of Sri Lanka and is an Attorney-at-Law admitted to the Supreme Court. According to reporting from Ada Derana, he became the youngest officer ever appointed to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police in the organisation's history. In 2020, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in recognition of his public service. He is an alumnus of Ananda College, Colombo, and was born in Kosgama, Avissawella.
Beyond his operational roles, Rohana gained public prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic as Police Media Spokesperson, a position in which he was credited with communicating police decisions and information to the public in a professional and accessible manner. Throughout his career, he also served as a Board Member of the National Child Protection Authority and held senior postings in charge of the Southern, North Western, and Eastern Provinces.
