The Department of Meteorology has predicted multiple spells of rain across several provinces today, with strong winds expected in select areas.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather forecast indicating that several spells of showers will affect the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara throughout the day.

Showers accompanied by thunderstorms are also expected to develop in the Ampara, Monaragala, and Batticaloa districts, though these are anticipated to occur only after 2:00 p.m. The remainder of the island is expected to experience predominantly dry conditions.

The Met. Department has also warned of fairly strong winds, with speeds ranging between 30-40 kilometers per hour at times, particularly over the Western slopes of the Central hills. Similar wind conditions are expected across the North-Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Mannar, Trincomalee, Hambantota, and Matale.

The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate potential damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning strikes during thundershowers.
