The Police Headquarters has initiated a significant transfer and reassignment of several senior officers, including multiple Senior Deputy Inspector Generals, pending approval from the National Police Commission.
The Police Headquarters has announced the transfer of multiple high-ranking officers across different operational divisions and geographical regions. The restructuring affects several Senior Deputy Inspectors General (SDIGs) and Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), with the changes subject to formal approval by the National Police Commission.
Among the key transfers, SDIG Sampath Kumara has been relocated from the Special Bureau to oversee operations in the Eastern Province. Meanwhile, SDIG Kithsiri Jayalath, previously heading the Southern Province division, has been reassigned to lead the Sabaragamuwa Province. In the Northern Province, SDIG K.P. Karunaratne, who previously directed the Special Protection Division, will assume leadership responsibilities. SDIG Buddhika Siriwardena, formerly in charge of the Northern Province, has been transferred to head the Southern Province operations.
Additional changes include SDIG Waruna Jayasundara, who will combine his existing role at the Children and Women's Bureau with a new assignment as Director of Training and Advanced Training. The restructuring also encompasses six Assistant Superintendents of Police, including ASP Namal Perera, who has been transferred from his position as Director of the Galle District Crimes Division to the Police Field Force.
