A severed human head in advanced decomposition was found near a riverbank in Moratumulla this morning, with police launching an investigation into the discovery.
A severed human head has been discovered near a riverbank behind a carpentry workshop in Moratumulla, according to police. The workshop owner came across the remains at approximately 8:00 a.m. and contacted emergency services immediately.
Officials from the Moratumulla Police station, along with personnel from the Police Special Task Force and Mount Lavinia Police, responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. The Acting Moratuwa Magistrate also visited the location to conduct an inspection of the discovery.
Police indicated that the head was in an advanced state of decomposition and bore signs of animal predation. At this stage, authorities have been unable to establish the identity of the deceased or determine the circumstances surrounding how the remains came to be at the location. Moratumulla Police continue their inquiries as they seek further details about the incident.
