Seylan Bank conducted a Scale-Up Programme in Tissamaharama, bringing together nearly 200 farmers to provide financial management training and access to specialised agricultural financing solutions.

Seylan Bank recently organised an SME Scale-Up Programme targeting the agricultural community in the Southern Province, with the initiative held at Hotel Niwahana in Tissamaharama. The event drew approximately 200 farmers who participated in training sessions designed to strengthen their business acumen and expand their agricultural operations sustainably.

The programme addressed key challenges facing farming communities, including management of rising production costs, strategies for scaling existing operations, and methods for improving crop productivity. Participants received practical guidance on financial management practices and were introduced to the bank's digital banking platforms to streamline their business transactions and operational efficiency.

Seylan Bank presented two primary financing mechanisms tailored for agricultural enterprises. The Seylan Athwela Farming System Sustainability Programme offers concessionary loans of up to Rs. 5 million at an annual interest rate of 5%, aimed at enabling farmers to expand operations and adopt modern practices. Additionally, the National Credit Relief and Credit Support scheme provides financing at 6% annually for farmers cultivating approved crops including paddy, maize, vegetables, and potatoes.

The bank framed the initiative as part of its broader strategy to support agricultural SMEs through combined provision of financial products, business development knowledge, and long-term banking partnerships. According to the bank, equipping farming communities with financial literacy alongside accessible financing represents a fundamental approach to building resilient agricultural enterprises that contribute to Sri Lanka's economic development and rural prosperity.
