The 105th anniversary of the Communist Party of China was celebrated in Colombo yesterday, Friday (26) as a special official event. The event, held at the headquarters of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, was jointly organized by the Sinhala Service of the China Media Group and the Communist Party of Sri Lanka. The event was attended by Minister of Environment Dr. Dhammika Patapendi, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Gee Chenhong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka G. Weerasinghe and Member of Parliament Dileeth Jayaweera, Leader of the 'Sarvajana Balaya' Party, as well as representatives of several political parties and diplomats. On this occasion, Prime Minister Harini Amarasooriya also issued a congratulatory message regarding the historic visit of the Communist Party of China. “Under the unique leadership of the Communist Party of China for over a century, China’s achievements in national development, social progress and people’s welfare programs are commendable. China has not only improved the living standards of the Chinese people, but also made significant contributions to global economic development, technological innovation and international cooperation,” the Prime Minister had said. Speaking at the event, Environment Minister Dhammika Patapendhi said that China’s experiences are a great example of how diversity can be turned into a strength through guidance based on mutual respect, understanding and common goals. He said that this is a great example for Sri Lanka and assured that the current government is committed to promoting national unity, coexistence and ethnic harmony. Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong, in his speech, stated that China and Sri Lanka have always maintained deep friendship. He also pointed out that better understanding of each other by the younger generations of both countries would be a key factor in further strengthening bilateral relations.
