Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
This is his first official visit to China since assuming office as Bangladeshi Prime Minister in February. Urgent request
During the bilateral talks, he asked the Chinese President to help reduce the huge trade deficit between the two countries.
He has requested China to import more fresh mangoes, jackfruit, guava, seafood, raw leather and pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Rahman stressed that China's full support is needed to implement Bangladesh's major infrastructure projects and modernize its industries. In response, President Xi Jinping assured that China is ready to import more Bangladeshi products and encourage Chinese companies to invest there. China has also agreed to promote the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor and provide all possible assistance for the Teesta River rehabilitation and management projects. The meeting is considered very important at a time when Bangladesh is trying to balance its relations with two regional giants, India and China.
