The President said that investigations have revealed that leading political leaders of the country have spoken on the phone 92 times with a major drug dealer in prison. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has publicly stated in Parliament that the kidnappings of 'white vans' without number plates and the abductions of those protesting against the breaking of houses that have posed a threat to the country in the past are all indecent crimes committed using state power for political purposes. He also stated that a small group with a state power background was behind the indecent politics that took place in the past, such as the death of Thajudeen, the Easter Sunday attacks and the bombings of media institutions. He stated that the current government is working with dedication to change the indecent political and parliamentary culture that prevailed in the country in the past and take the country on a civilized path. The President alleged that over the past three to four decades, drug and underworld groups have grown in the country with the full support and protection of politicians. He said that criminal groups that were armed with simple weapons in the 80s have now become international networks that can handle sophisticated automatic weapons, adding that although it is not possible to eradicate them in a few months, the government has taken several strict and consistent measures for this. He assured that drug and organized crime groups will be completely uprooted from Sri Lankan soil.
