In Mundur, near Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district, a traditional 'ghost wedding' of the Tulu people was held with great pomp and show to bring peace to the souls of two people who had passed away in their childhood. The ceremony was held in memory of Anand and Saroja, who had passed away about 25 years ago, in the hope that the obstacles faced by the family would be removed. All the wedding rituals performed for the living were performed for them as per the rules. For this, the images of the bride and groom were made of clay and bananas. The idols were adorned with new clothes and jewellery, and events such as garlanding and offering of mangalyam were held in the presence of relatives. This was followed by a wedding feast for the guests. This rare event, which reflects the deep spiritual tradition and ancestor worship of the Tulu people, has caused great surprise and excitement among the people of the area.
