Heavy rains and flooding have resulted in six deaths and affected over 4,000 people across multiple districts, with Nuwara Eliya bearing the brunt of the disaster.

Six people have died and three others injured as severe weather conditions continue to impact several regions of the country, according to a situation report from the Disaster Management Centre. One person remains unaccounted for as search and rescue operations proceed across affected areas.

The adverse weather, characterised by heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides, has affected 4,088 people from 1,045 families spread across six districts since the outbreak began yesterday. The Nuwara Eliya District has emerged as the worst-affected area, accounting for five of the six deaths and impacting more than 500 families in the region.

In response to the crisis, authorities have evacuated nearly 500 families to 11 designated safe centres. District officials and relevant agencies are actively engaged in relief and response operations, providing assistance to affected communities while maintaining vigilance over incoming weather updates. The Disaster Management Centre continues monitoring the situation as emergency services work to locate the missing person and support those displaced by the disaster.
