Severe weather conditions in Sri Lanka's Nuwara Eliya District have affected more than 2,300 individuals, with six people missing and hundreds relocated to temporary shelters.
Continuing adverse weather has impacted a significant portion of the Nuwara Eliya District, with authorities reporting that 2,331 individuals from 581 families have been affected by the deteriorating conditions. The severe weather has claimed casualties and left multiple people unaccounted for in the region.
According to local authorities, six persons remain missing as a result of weather-related incidents, while three others have been injured. The exact nature of these incidents and their connection to the adverse weather conditions underscores the severity of the situation in the district.
In response to the crisis, authorities have established seven safety centres across the district, to which 1,734 people have been relocated for protection. This relocation effort represents a significant portion of those affected by the weather conditions. Relief and rescue operations continue to be deployed in the affected areas, with authorities maintaining close monitoring of the situation as conditions persist.
