The Sri Lanka Corporate Director Summit 2026, organized by SLID, brought together nearly 500 business leaders and governance professionals to discuss how corporate boards must evolve beyond compliance to drive sustainable growth and competitiveness.
The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors concluded its Corporate Director Summit 2026 recently, convening 475 participants including chairpersons, corporate directors, CEOs, regulators, policymakers, and investors. Held under the theme "Future-Ready Sri Lankan Boards – From Compliance to Sustainable Growth," the event featured speakers from multiple countries including the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, India, Thailand, and the Maldives, underscoring the global dimensions of contemporary board leadership challenges.
The summit emphasized that corporate governance has fundamentally transformed beyond mere regulatory compliance. Modern boards are now expected to address strategic leadership, oversee emerging technologies, strengthen organizational resilience, manage cybersecurity risks, develop organizational talent and culture, and generate sustainable long-term value. Discussions throughout the event reflected the pressures boards face from artificial intelligence, digital transformation, geopolitical uncertainty, and evolving environmental, social, and governance priorities.
SLID leadership indicated that the summit represents a milestone in the Institute's 25-year commitment to advancing director excellence in Sri Lanka. Dinesh Weerakkody, SLID Chairman, stated that insights from the summit will be compiled into a Board Governance Insights Handbook to serve as a practical reference for directors. The organization plans to continue advancing board leadership through its ongoing director education initiatives, particularly the SLID Board Leadership Programme, which aims to strengthen boardrooms' capacity to support organizational resilience and Sri Lanka's economic competitiveness.
The summit was supported by Deloitte Sri Lanka & Maldives as Strategic Partner and LYNEAR Wealth Management as Title Sponsor, among other corporate collaborators. Event organizers emphasized that the true measure of success will depend on whether directors implement the insights gained when making subsequent boardroom decisions.
