Renuka Perera, a senior SLPP figure and former National Transport Commission Chairman, has been arrested by Sri Lanka's anti-corruption commission over allegations linked to the irregular issuance of transport permits for the Southern Expressway.

Renuka Perera, a prominent member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and former National Transport Commission (NTC) Chairman, was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on allegations of corruption-related misconduct.

The arrest centres on the issuance of 56 passenger service permits for the Southern Expressway during Perera's tenure as NTC Chairman. According to investigators cited by NewsFirst, the permits were issued outside legally prescribed procedures and without collecting the required annual fees in a single payment as mandated. This process is alleged to have caused financial loss to the State.

Perera is expected to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court for further legal proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details are anticipated from authorities. The allegations have not been tested in court and remain unproven.
