Sri Lanka's national ICT provider has extended its agreement to supply free connectivity services to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, continuing a partnership that has lasted over a decade.

SLT-MOBITEL has renewed its arrangement as the official information and communications technology service provider to the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy for an 11th consecutive year. The partnership, which has remained uninterrupted for more than a decade, reflects the telecommunications company's stated commitment to supporting both technological advancement and the preservation of Sri Lanka's cultural institutions.

Under the extended agreement, SLT-MOBITEL will supply complimentary high-speed fiber broadband connectivity, television services, and voice communication facilities to the temple. According to the company, these services will strengthen the Maligawa's media operations and enable the institution to broadcast sacred ceremonies and cultural events to audiences beyond the temple grounds.

A central component of the partnership involves supporting the live transmission of the annual Kandy Esala Perahera, the renowned cultural procession held at the temple. SLT-MOBITEL stated that its infrastructure enables the festival to reach millions of viewers domestically and internationally through both television and digital channels. The company also noted that its technology infrastructure assists in documenting and distributing content related to the temple's religious and cultural activities.

The arrangement demonstrates how commercial telecommunications providers in Sri Lanka have positioned themselves within heritage and cultural preservation frameworks alongside their commercial operations. SLT-MOBITEL characterized the partnership as supporting both digital transformation initiatives and the safeguarding of national cultural traditions for global audiences.
