Relevant government agencies plan to convene on August 5 to evaluate safety protocols and contingency arrangements for two major national examinations threatened by adverse weather patterns currently affecting Sri Lanka. The gathering will bring together meteorological experts, disaster management officials, and examination administrators to coordinate preparations.
Unusual monsoon activity has brought heavy rainfall across the island during a period when August typically experiences minimal precipitation, according to the Department of Meteorology. Director General Ajith Wijemanna indicated that weather conditions are expected to improve progressively, with rainfall beginning to subside between August 6 and 8, and more substantial clearing anticipated by August 10.
The timing is critical for the examination calendar. The Grade 5 Scholarship Examination is scheduled for Sunday, August 9, while the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination will commence on August 10 and continue through September 5, 2026. Officials will use the special meeting to examine existing contingency plans aimed at maintaining examination integrity while protecting students and facilities from weather-related disruptions.
