COLOMBO (News 1st) - Three officials, including Deputy General Manager of the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant Thushan Abeykoon, have been summoned before the Special Presidential Commission into Coal Procurement today to give evidence.Deputy General Manager Thushan Abeykoon was also summoned before the Commission last Wednesday.Today's proceedings mark the third day of public hearings by the The Special Presidential Commission to Investigate Coal Procurement transactions.Previously, the Commission recorded evidence from officials including Deputy Solicitor General Ganga Wakishta Arachchi, Deputy Solicitor General Angelo Van Hout, Secretary to the Ministry of Energy G.M.R.D. Aponsu, an Additional Secretary to the Ministry, and Registrar of Companies Shyama Harshani.The Commission began recording evidence based on affidavits previously submitted by these officials during the investigation into coal procurement transactions.Commission Secretary D.V. Bandulasena said hearings are scheduled to continue over the coming weeks.Special Presidential Commission into Coal Procurement was appointed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to conduct a comprehensive investigation into coal procurement transactions carried out since 2009, including alleged fraud, corruption, and irregularities in the procurement process.
