Sri Lanka Police have announced comprehensive traffic and parking arrangements for the Derana-Signal Colombo International Kite Festival 2026, scheduled for August 8–9 at Galle Face Green, with a vehicle parade and musical concert planned.

The Colombo International Kite Festival will take place over two days this weekend at Galle Face Green, beginning with a vehicle parade on Saturday morning. The parade is scheduled to commence at 9:00 am on August 8, travelling through numerous major Colombo roads including Galle Face Roundabout, Kollupitiya Junction, Liberty Roundabout, Bambalapitiya Junction, Horton Place, Lipton Roundabout, and Lotus Road before concluding at Port City. Motorists have been advised to avoid these routes and seek alternative pathways, as significant traffic congestion is anticipated during the parade.

On Sunday, August 9, the festival and accompanying musical concert will open to the public at Galle Face Green. To manage the expected crowds and ensure public safety, Police have mobilized approximately 1,000 officers for the weekend, comprising 300 traffic officers and 700 additional personnel. Traffic officers will be stationed throughout the city to regulate vehicle movement, assist visitors, and minimize congestion across the festival period.

Parking has been arranged at multiple designated locations to accommodate visitors. Free parking options include MOD Grounds Car Park, a concrete facility near Shangri-La, and street parking along Chaithya Road, York Street, Leyden Bastion Road, Lower Lotus Road, Duke Street, Bristol Street, and other central Colombo locations. For those preferring paid facilities, options include Access Tower Car Park at Union Place, a private car park near Gamini Roundabout, and facilities at Lake House, Chamas, and Old Manning Market.
