The vibrant flavours, aromas and culinary traditions of Malaysia have arrived in Colombo as Sheraton Colombo presents “Spice Trails of Malaysia” an exclusive food festival that takes diners on an unforgettable gastronomic journey through one of South East Asia most diverse food cultures, held in collaboration with the High Commission of Malaysia in Sri Lanka and Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur. The festival concludes tomorrow at Colombo kitchen. From the bustling streets of Penang to the traditional kitchens of Melaka and Johor, the festival showcases an irresistible spread of authentic Malaysian favourites prepared by visiting Malaysian chefs. There are many signature dishes and a colourful array of traditional desserts. Every dish reflected Malaysia’s vibrant heritage, offering diners an authentic taste of its diverse region through time honoured recipes and expertly crafted flavours. This festival offered food lovers a rare opportunity to experience the true essence of Malaysian gastronomy. Bringing these authentic flavours to Colombo are two distinguished culinary ambassadors from Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur. Leading the showcase was Chef Mohd Khairul Azhar bin Nordin, Sous Chef – Malay Banquet, whose nearly two decades of culinary expertise have been dedicated to preserving and celebrating Malaysia’s rich food heritage. Having represented Malaysian cuisine internationally and most recently overseen culinary operations for an official royal function at Istana Negara, Chef Azhar is renowned for his mastery of traditional Malay cuisine and banquet gastronomy.

Joining him is Chef Muhammad Fahmi bin Sulaiman, Chef de Partie I, whose culinary journey spans over 15 years across a variety of cuisines, including Malay, Indian, Japanese, Western and Italian. Known for his passion for Malaysia’s street food culture and regional specialties, Chef Fahmi brought creativity, technical expertise and a deep appreciation for the flavours that define Malaysian cuisine. Together, the chefs curate an immersive dining experience that highlights the regional diversity of Malaysian gastronomy. Guests can explore iconic dishes from across the country, including Penang Char Kway Teow, Mee Bandung from Johor, Soto Ayam, Roti Canai, Wok-Fried Penang Chilli Crab, Stir-Fried Black Bean Prawns, Ayam Perchik, and an assortment of traditional desserts inspired by Malaysia’s diverse cultural influences, including Bubur Pulut Hitam, Kuih Ketayap, Kuih Kesari, Tangyuan, Lai Chi Kang, the refreshing Ais Kacang, Malaysia’s iconic shaved ice dessert. More than a food festival, Spice Trails of Malaysia is a celebration of culture, heritage and culinary craftsmanship, offering diners an opportunity to experience the stories, traditions and flavours that have shaped Malaysia’s unique gastronomic identity.
