The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for strong winds affecting several parts of Sri Lanka until 11.00 a.m. tomorrow (4 July). The advisory, issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 11.00 a.m. today (3 July), warns that strong winds of about 40 to 50 kmph can be expected at times over the Central, Northern, North Central and North Western provinces. The advisory also covers the Ratnapura, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. The Department of Meteorology said the strong winds are due to the active southwest monsoonal conditions and urged the public in the affected areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
