Sri Lanka's Customs department reached Rs. 2 trillion in revenue collection by mid-September 2026, achieving over 90% of its annual target with roughly three months remaining in the year.

Sri Lanka Customs announced on September 15 that it had surpassed the Rs. 2 trillion revenue mark, according to customs spokesman Chandana Punchihewa. The milestone was reached in less than nine months, leaving the department approximately Rs. 207 billion short of its full-year revenue target of Rs. 2.207 trillion.

The collection performance reflects consistent progress throughout 2026. Official Customs data showed that by the end of August, the department had collected Rs. 1.85 trillion, already exceeding its revenue target for the first eight months of the year. The September milestone represents a continuation of this trajectory, with the department now standing at more than 90% of its annual target.

Motor vehicle imports and petroleum imports have emerged as the largest revenue contributors to Customs collections, according to department statements. These two categories together account for a significant portion of the department's income stream. The 2026 performance builds on the department's record-setting results from 2025, when Customs collected Rs. 2.56 trillion in annual revenue, surpassing its revised target for that year.
