According to Sri Lanka Cricket sources, batsman Pathum Nissanka is expected to miss the opening Test in Galle on August 15, while wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Mendis faces the possibility of sitting out the entire two-match series. Both players are undergoing rehabilitation with hopes of returning, particularly for the second Test scheduled in Colombo on August 23, though prospects remain uncertain at present.
The absence of Nissanka at the top of the order has already prompted consideration of Nishan Madushka as his replacement. Madushka has strengthened his candidacy by scoring 66 runs in a warm-up three-day match between the SLC XI and India, demonstrating form ahead of the series.
Mendis' potential unavailability presents a more complex challenge for selectors, particularly regarding the wicketkeeping position.
