Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh signed three Memoranda of Understanding with Sri Lanka during an official visit, marking a formal step in deepening defence cooperation between the two nations. The agreements were exchanged following Singh's meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat.
The first accord establishes cooperation between the National Defence College of Sri Lanka and India's National Defence College, focusing on national security, development, and strategic studies. A second agreement creates a partnership between the National Cadet Corps of both countries. The third MoU addresses military equipment, covering the acquisition and maintenance of L-70 air defence guns for the Sri Lankan Air Force. According to reports, India will provide six L-70 guns under a government grant and supply free maintenance support for the six existing L-70 systems already deployed in Sri Lanka.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through the defence sector. Officials described the agreements as steps toward enhanced military cooperation and security partnership between the two neighbouring nations.
