Sri Lanka has taken delivery of the initial batch of 104 new metro buses imported from Chinese manufacturer Foton International Corporation, marking the beginning of a public transport modernization initiative.
The first consignment of 104 newly manufactured metro buses arrived in Sri Lanka on the 29th, as part of a broader effort to upgrade the country's public transportation infrastructure. The vehicles were sourced from Foton International Corporation, a prominent Chinese vehicle manufacturer, under an import agreement finalized in May of this year.
According to government plans, the introduction of these buses is intended to improve service standards and operational efficiency across Sri Lanka's public transport network. The first batch represents the initial phase of what appears to be a larger procurement arrangement with the Chinese firm.
The timing of the delivery follows months of preparation, with the agreement having been formally executed earlier in the year.
