According to research conducted by Kaspersky in March 2026, Generation Z in Asia Pacific has emerged as the most active users of artificial intelligence among all demographic groups in the region. The survey of 7,200 respondents across 18 countries found that half of Gen Z respondents engage with AI on a daily or near-daily basis, with the majority using it for practical purposes such as information retrieval, academic study, and idea generation.
Beyond utilitarian applications, the research reveals a significant shift in how younger users relate to AI technology. Approximately one-third of Gen Z respondents in Asia Pacific now interact with AI systems as they would with a friend, a proportion considerably higher than in older generations. The trend is particularly pronounced in Southeast Asia and South Asia, with Vietnam recording the highest percentage at 42% of respondents using AI to discuss personal issues they would prefer not to share with others. This comfort level reflects how seamlessly conversational AI has integrated into the digital habits of younger users.
However, researchers have raised concerns about the gap between adoption rates and security awareness. While 45% of Gen Z respondents report consistently employing protective measures when using AI services, more than half occasionally neglect precautions such as verifying information or avoiding disclosure of sensitive data. Malaysia showed particular vulnerability, with 54% of respondents admitting to only occasional use of protective measures. Kaspersky emphasized that users should recognize AI responses can be inaccurate or inappropriate, and that information entered into AI services should be treated as non-confidential.
To address these gaps, Kaspersky has recommended developing comprehensive security practices alongside AI skills, including information verification, protection of personal data, and critical evaluation of AI-generated responses. The organization has also launched educational initiatives, including an interactive game called "Case 404" designed to help younger users recognize digital threats and develop cybersecurity habits.
