MAS Holdings has participated in a major funding round for Syntetica, a French company developing technology to recycle mixed nylon waste from textiles at industrial scale.

Syntetica, a French deeptech company, has secured 30 million dollars in Series A funding to scale its textile waste recycling technology, with backing from major apparel brands and investors including Sri Lanka's MAS Holdings. The funding round was led by Ecotechnologies 2, a fund managed by French public investment bank Bpifrance, and included participation from SWEN Capital Partners, athletic brand lululemon, and family offices linked to major industrial groups.

The company has developed a process capable of recycling both Nylon 6 and Nylon 6,6 from mixed textile waste in a single operation, overcoming a significant technical barrier in the industry. Currently, recycled nylon represents only around 2 percent of the global nylon market despite strong demand for sustainable materials, as identifying and separating different nylon types has proven challenging. Syntetica's approach targets post-consumer textiles, which account for approximately 80 percent of textile waste and represent a largely untapped recycling opportunity.

The company plans to construct its first commercial demonstration facility in France using the funding, in partnership with Michelin's Centre for Sustainable Materials. The facility is expected to process hundreds of tonnes of textile waste annually, transitioning the technology from laboratory scale to industrial production. Syntetica is already working with apparel brands including Victoria's Secret and Etam on implementing the recycling process.

According to MAS Holdings' Group Innovation Director Sid Amalean, the investment represents a strategic move for the industry, combining brand commitment, manufacturing expertise, and industrial scale-up capabilities. The backing reflects broader efforts by brands, manufacturers and policymakers to reduce waste and develop more sustainable material supply chains in response to growing demand for circular economy solutions.
