Sri Lankan authorities have incinerated a substantial quantity of narcotics seized during anti-drug operations over a ten-month period, following the completion of legal proceedings.
Sri Lanka Police have destroyed a large cache of illegal drugs seized during enforcement operations spanning from late October 2025 through mid-August 2026, according to a police spokesperson.
The destroyed narcotics included approximately 2,259 kilograms of heroin, 2,653 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine—commonly referred to as "Ice"—and 293 kilograms of cocaine, along with smaller quantities of each substance. Combined, the total exceeded 5,200 kilograms of illicit drugs.
The destruction took place at a high-temperature incineration facility operated by authorities at Latto Watta in Wanathavilluwa, Puttalam. Police indicated that only narcotics associated with cases where court proceedings had been concluded were subjected to this disposal process, following standard procedures established for the destruction of confiscated illegal substances once legal action has been finalized.
The operation reflects ongoing drug enforcement efforts by Sri Lankan authorities against trafficking networks operating within the country. The scale of the seizures underscores the substantial quantities of controlled substances intercepted during the ten-month period.
