Sri Lanka's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath will travel to Thailand from 14 to 16 September 2026 to strengthen bilateral cooperation, with planned agreements on labour mobility and employment.

Minister Vijitha Herath will undertake an official visit to Thailand from 14 to 16 September at the invitation of Thailand's Minister of Labour. During the three-day visit, he is scheduled to hold discussions with Thailand's Labour Minister, Tourism Minister, and Acting Foreign Affairs Minister to advance cooperation in areas of shared interest between the two countries.

The centrepiece of the visit will be the signing of two labour-related agreements. Sri Lanka and Thailand plan to execute a Memorandum of Understanding on Labour Cooperation and a Memorandum of Agreement focused specifically on the employment of Sri Lankan workers in Thailand. These instruments are intended to formalize frameworks for managing worker migration and labour mobility between the nations.

According to statements from Sri Lanka's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, the visit is expected to yield broader outcomes beyond labour agreements. The delegation aims to advance practical cooperation in tourism, strengthen people-to-people connections, and enhance overall bilateral economic engagement. The discussions will reportedly cover employment, migration, and labour mobility as priority areas for deepening the relationship between Colombo and Bangkok.
