Sri Lankan authorities have successfully brought back a 36-year-old suspect wanted for multiple serious crimes, including shootings, murders, and drug trafficking, following cooperation between local police and Dubai authorities.
Sri Lanka Police have acknowledged the cooperation of Dubai Police and United Arab Emirates authorities in the arrest and extradition of Bus Lalith, a 36-year-old resident of Kalutara South wanted for numerous criminal offences. According to Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler, the suspect's return to the country followed investigative efforts initiated after information was received by the Inspector General of Police in October 2025.
Lalith faces investigations related to a substantial criminal portfolio spanning multiple categories of offences. Police allege his involvement in shootings, murders, attempted murders, and cases involving grievous bodily injury. The suspect is also accused of extortion, attacks using sharp weapons, and the deliberate burning of vehicles and other property. Additionally, authorities believe Lalith played a significant role in drug trafficking operations.
The suspect is currently in custody under detention orders issued by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau as investigations continue. Police spokesman Wootler stated that bringing Lalith back to Sri Lanka represents part of a broader international cooperation effort. Between 2024 and 2026, authorities have successfully secured the return of 42 suspects subject to Interpol Red Notices, with an additional 109 suspects against whom Red Notices have been issued still being pursued. Police have also facilitated the return of 38 wanted suspects from overseas who were not subject to Red Notice procedures.
Wootler expressed formal gratitude to Dubai Police and UAE authorities for their assistance in locating, apprehending, and facilitating the transfer of the suspect to Sri Lankan custody.
