Sri Lanka's wildlife heritage and tourism potential took centre stage at the Sri Lanka Wildlife Festival 2026, which ran from July 14 to 16 in London. Organised jointly by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and the High Commission of Sri Lanka, the event showcased the island's natural diversity through multiple platforms.
A photography exhibition featuring nearly 100 images captured across Sri Lanka formed the centrepiece of the festival, displayed at the High Commission premises in London. High Commissioner Nimal Senadheera inaugurated the exhibition alongside other High Commission officials, providing visitors with visual documentation of the country's diverse ecosystems and wildlife.
The festival concluded with a wildlife forum on July 16, which brought together more than 100 participants including international wildlife enthusiasts and conservation specialists. The forum featured a panel discussion with established wildlife photographers and naturalists who have documented Sri Lanka's biodiversity extensively. Participants discussed the country's potential as a destination for nature-based and sustainable wildlife tourism.
The London event complemented Sri Lanka's concurrent participation at the Global Bird Fair 2026 in Rutland, part of broader efforts to establish the island as a premier destination for wildlife viewing and birdwatching tourism. Organisers emphasised the country's exceptional biodiversity and growing international appeal to visitors seeking nature-focused travel experiences.
