The Sri Lankan team has secured a silver medal at the SCO Summer - King of Chefs Invitational 2026 competition held in Qingdao, China on June 26–27.The event brought together chefs from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, showcasing a high level of international culinary talent.Representing Sri Lanka was the team from the Sri Lankan restaurant in Beijing, Sinnara Restaurant. The team featured head chef Nishad Samaranayake and assistant chef Manoj Liyanage.The Sri Lankan chefs impressed judges and international culinary experts by presenting traditional dishes including kiribath (milk rice) and coconut roti. Their performance earned significant praise from leading Chinese chefs and the judging panel.This marks a notable achievement, as it is the first time in 15 years that Sri Lanka has secured a result of this level in an international chef competition held in China.The team stated that the recognition provides an important opportunity to promote Sri Lankan cuisine globally, highlight the country’s rich culinary heritage, and support future international culinary success.
