The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah has issued an urgent safety advisory to Sri Lankan citizens in western Saudi Arabia, instructing them to follow emergency protocols and remain alert amid an unspecified evolving security situation.
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah released an emergency notice directing Sri Lankan nationals in the western region of Saudi Arabia to heighten vigilance and adhere to specific safety measures in response to an emerging security situation in the area. The advisory does not specify the nature of the security threat.
The consulate instructed recipients of National Warning Alerts on their mobile phones to immediately seek safe areas away from windows. Those outdoors have been advised to enter the nearest secure building or position themselves behind solid walls, while avoiding open spaces, glass surfaces, balconies and rooftops. Motorists receiving emergency warnings should pull over and avoid bridges and high-rise buildings until authorities confirm the threat has passed. Residents have also been directed to avoid crowds and potentially dangerous areas.
The consulate emphasized that citizens must refrain from photographing, filming, or recording incidents, and should not share or comment on such material on social media platforms. Officials urged the community to rely exclusively on official announcements rather than unverified information and to comply strictly with Saudi Arabian laws and regulations.
Emergency contact numbers have been provided for Sri Lankans requiring assistance: 911 for Makkah and Madinah regions, 998 for other parts of Saudi Arabia, and 056 098 6671 for the consulate's emergency line.
