Exit, a Sri Lankan band operating in Doha, is repositioning itself after weathering the impacts of recent Middle East instability on the live music scene. The group, formed in 2016 and fronted by vocalist Tiron Ismet, built a strong following by performing regularly at Misturado at Crowne Plaza Doha on Friday nights, establishing themselves as fixtures in the city's entertainment landscape. The band's repertoire spans rock, pop, jazz and ballads, drawing audiences through their diverse musical offerings.
The ensemble has supported performances by several Sri Lankan artists including the Jayasiri Brothers, Athula Adikari, and Indrachapa Liyanage at various Doha venues. Despite their established presence, the band felt the effects of regional tensions, which resulted in reduced booking opportunities for live performances across the area. However, musical activities have continued despite these challenges.
Ismet's musical background stretches back to childhood in Sri Lanka, where he performed in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil and English. His professional journey includes work with several bands before forming Exit, and he has maintained music alongside other career pursuits since relocating to Qatar. Looking forward, Ismet is transitioning into original composition work, having written and created songs in Sinhala that he describes as being in final stages before release as solo singles.
The band's comeback is supported by its community, with Ismet crediting his wife Raiza, also a talented vocalist, for sustained encouragement. Exit is scheduled to resume its regular Friday performances at Misturado, Crowne Plaza Doha, beginning next month, signaling the continuation of live music offerings in the region despite recent headwinds.
