The victory represents his fourth consecutive Diamond League title, following earlier wins at meets in Rome, Doha, and Lausanne this year.

Tharanga's performance in Zurich positioned him ahead of competitors including Grenada's Anderson Peters in second place and Poland's Dawid Wegner in third. At 23 years old, Tharanga has established himself as the world's top-ranked men's javelin thrower. His 92.07-metre throw marks the second occasion this year he has exceeded the 92-metre mark, with his best effort of 92.62 metres achieved during the Rome Diamond League event.

Beyond his Diamond League success, Tharanga recently won the men's javelin gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The Zurich triumph has now secured his qualification for the Diamond League Final, scheduled to take place in Brussels, as he continues his exceptional competitive run.
