Senior Superintendent of Police Roshan Amarasinghe has been appointed Director of the Criminal Investigation Department following the promotion of his predecessor to a higher rank.

The Police Media Division has announced the appointment of Senior Superintendent of Police Roshan Amarasinghe as the new Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The appointment was made on the directive of the Inspector General of Police and follows established service requirements within the force.

The directorial position became available after Shani Abeysekara, who previously held the role, was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). According to police authorities, this promotion reflects career progression within the force's senior command structure.

In a move to maintain operational continuity, the police confirmed that Abeysekara will retain functional responsibility over the CID while serving in the DIG capacity. This arrangement allows for overlapping supervision between the newly appointed director and the promoted former director, ensuring a structured transition during the leadership change.
