The Ontario government is set to provide funding for the Steeles Avenue expansion.

The federal government is also supporting critical infrastructure improvements in Toronto, along with the Ontario government.

The road reconstruction project is expected to create connected and thriving communities.

As part of this investment, the Ontario and federal governments will cover 90 per cent of the cost of widening Steeles Avenue East from Tapscott Road to the Ninth Line, a long-awaited project for Scarborough-Rouge Park residents.

The project will provide Scarborough residents with shorter commute times, less traffic, and safer and more consistent streets.

It will also help provide better transportation connections for families, workers, students, seniors and local businesses.

The Steeles Avenue East road widening will help improve traffic flow on a busy route that connects Scarborough to its neighbouring communities.

Funded by the Government of Ontario, this will make daily travel more convenient.

Minister Vijay Thanikasalam said in a statement on the project,

“I am proud that our government, in partnership with the federal government, will cover 90 per cent of the cost of widening Steeles Avenue East between Tapscott Street and the Ninth Line.

The people of Scarborough have been asking for this for years, and now we are delivering. This will reduce travel times, relieve traffic congestion and make our community’s lifestyle more convenient.

“This investment reflects the Ontario government’s continued commitment to working with all levels of government to build the roads, transportation connections and infrastructure needed for families, businesses and future growth across Toronto,” he said.
