Sri Lanka's Department of Examinations has implemented strict prohibitions on tuition classes and related educational activities during the Advanced Level and Grade 5 Scholarship examinations scheduled for August.
The Department of Examinations has announced comprehensive restrictions on tutoring and educational support services during two major national examinations taking place this month. The prohibitions cover the Advanced Level Examination, scheduled from August 10 to September 5 across 2,532 examination centres, and the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination set for August 9 at 2,723 centres.
Under the enforcement order, all tuition classes, subject-related lectures, seminars, and workshops are banned during the examination periods. The restrictions also extend to the production and distribution of model question papers and related study materials. The Commissioner General of Examinations emphasized that publishing, possessing, or displaying promotional materials claiming to provide similar examination questions is similarly prohibited.
These restrictions took effect from midnight on August 4 for the Advanced Level Examination and midnight on August 5 for the Scholarship Examination, continuing until each examination concludes. According to the Department, violations of these orders constitute an offense under the Public Examinations Act No. 25 of 1968, with penalties applicable to individuals, educational institutions, or organizations found in breach.
The Department has established multiple channels for reporting suspected violations, including local police stations, the Police Headquarters hotline at 011-2421111, the Police Emergency number 119, and the Department of Examinations hotline at 1911. Additional contact numbers for the School Examinations Organization and Results Branch have also been provided for inquiries.
