Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber-level advisory warning of strong winds affecting five provinces as the south-west monsoon remains active across the country.
The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for strong winds impacting the North Central, North Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces. The alert, which took effect on Friday, remains valid until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Meteorological officials have forecasted wind speeds of approximately 40 to 50 kilometres per hour at times over the affected regions, attributable to ongoing active south-west monsoon conditions persisting across the island. The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre released the advisory at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
Authorities have urged members of the public to exercise vigilance and implement appropriate safety measures to reduce potential damage from the strong winds. Citizens are also advised to monitor future bulletins from the Department of Meteorology for updated information regarding weather conditions in their areas.
