Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology has warned of hazardous sea conditions affecting multiple coastal regions, with wind speeds expected to reach up to 50 kilometres per hour.
The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory covering several stretches of Sri Lanka's coastline, cautioning against rough sea conditions and strong winds in the coming period. The warning applies to sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota on the southern coast, as well as from Chilaw to Kankesanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar on the western and northern coasts.
According to the meteorological department, wind speeds in the affected sea regions are expected to intensify, potentially reaching up to 50 kilometres per hour at certain times. The department has specifically urged fishing communities and naval operators to exercise heightened caution and remain vigilant while conducting activities at sea during this period of adverse weather conditions.
The advisory represents a precautionary measure to ensure maritime safety across the identified coastal zones and is directed at all personnel engaged in sea-based operations.
