The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued a weather advisory for strong winds and rough seas affecting coastal areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil through August 2nd.
The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has alerted maritime communities to hazardous sea conditions expected along Sri Lanka's western and southern coastlines. The advisory covers sea areas spanning from Puttalam to Pottuvil, passing through the major ports and fishing zones of Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
According to the alert, winds in the affected regions are forecast to reach speeds between 55 and 65 kilometres per hour with strong gusts. Sea conditions in these areas are predicted to become rough or very rough at times during the advisory period.
The warning remains in effect until 10:30 p.m. on August 2nd. Authorities have specifically advised naval personnel and fishing communities operating in these waters to maintain heightened vigilance and monitor subsequent updates from the Department of Meteorology to ensure their safety during maritime activities.
