The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued advisories for multiple sea areas around Sri Lanka, warning of strong winds and rough conditions expected to persist until tomorrow morning.

Authorities have released weather warnings affecting several coastal regions of Sri Lanka, with alerts remaining in effect until 7 a.m. on August 10. The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre identified two zones of concern based on wind intensity and sea conditions.

The southern coastal strip presents the most hazardous conditions. Sea areas stretching from Matara to Pottuvil through Hambantota are forecast to experience very rough seas intermittently, with wind gusts expected to exceed 60 kilometers per hour. Naval personnel and fishing communities have been instructed to avoid these waters entirely until conditions improve.

A secondary warning zone covers less severe but still concerning conditions across the eastern and western coasts. Areas from Batticaloa to Chilaw via Trincomalee, Kankesanthurai and Mannar, as well as waters between Galle and Matara, are expected to be rough at times with gusty winds reaching up to 50 kilometers per hour. Maritime workers in these regions have been advised to exercise caution and monitor conditions closely.

The Department of Meteorology cautioned that temporary intensification of winds and sea roughness may occur during thunderstorms. All naval and fishing communities have been urged to remain informed of weather developments and adhere to official warnings and forecasts.
