This occurrence is part of the sun's apparent southward movement relative to Sri Lanka's latitude during a specific period each year. The direct overhead positioning is expected to continue across various parts of the island through September 7th, as the sun's apparent motion progresses southward.

The phenomenon, known as the sun's zenith passage, occurs when the sun reaches its highest point directly above particular latitudes, creating unique lighting and shadow conditions at noon.
